Specialist Chimney Tar Removal

Chimney Tar Removal in: Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Moretonhampstead, Princetown, Ivybridge, South Brent, Kingsbridge, Totnes, Newton Abbot, Chudleigh, Bovey Tracey

Creosote and soot build-up in chimneys can pose the risk of serious fires. Removing glazed third-degree creosote using traditional or power sweeping is almost impossible. However, by carrying out a chemical treatment using a creosote modifier, we can change the substance of the tar, breaking it up so that it falls away when swept. This will leave your chimney like new, without further risk of fire.

Treatment consists of two visits, both lasting around 2 hours over a two-week period.  The chimney has an initial sweep to remove less stubborn creosote, before the application of the chemicals. There is no risk to occupants from these chemicals. After two weeks using the appliance or an alternative heating source, the chimney has a thorough after-sweep, and is then checked by a CCTV camera.

The procedure is not recommended for unlined stoves, unless you also intend to install a liner system. This is because the chimney condition could be compromised with creosote very likely to return.
